By Art, I am talking about Visual Art. The normal "draw on the paper" type art.
My absolute favorite medium (so far at least) is just simple pencil (An 8b works best for me) because I like to have that flexibility to erase when I need to and also the range of shades I can get while shading is absolutely wonderful.
A favorite style of mine is (obviously) Black and White. Since I use the pencils so much, it is usually a shade of gray inbetween black and white. Pen and Ink, Calligraphy Pen and Indian Ink, it doesn't matter. I love Black and White. There is something so arresting and simple about pictures in black and white. Of course.. some things look better in color than they do in B&W. That's to be understood.
One of my favorite artists is M.C. Escher. He's the one who drew the picture of the hands, drawing each other.. Recognize? Perhaps not. Also, the picture where there are lizards crawling out of a picture IN his picture to travel over a bunch of obstacles and crawl right back into the place they started. It's really quite fasinating. Anyway, I love his art because of the complexity of it. I actually emulated one of his art works and it wasn't until I was actually drawing that I realized just how much tiny detail and how much mind twisting illusions he put into his work. Deffinately a worthy artist.
My favorite subjects are, as always, cats. There is something magnificent and breathtaking about a well-drawn cat.
I also happen to like water colors. I hadn't used them until now since about first grade. I had always been convinced you couldn't really do anything with them with bright vibrant colors. I was wrong. With normal, kids Crayola Watercolor Paints, I managed to get the most beautiful picture of a bouquet of flowers, completely with hundreds of shades of green and red and white... It really was beautiful and ever since then I've loved watercolors.
